HOW THE PRACTICE OPERATES
Registration
Patients wishing to register should enquire at reception.
Disabled Access
The practice has designated parking spaces and disabled access at the Gardden Road Surgery.
Home Visits
Is a service we offer only to patients who are housebound or immobile. If you are incapacitated or too ill to come to the surgery you can request a home visit. You should telephone before 11am so that your request can be triaged in order to assess the necessity for a home visit. We do appreciate emergencies do arise during the day and our staff are here to help and will contact a Doctor as soon as they are able to do so.
Please remember that the Doctor can see several patients in the surgery in the same amount of time that it takes to make a house call.
Out Of Hours Arrangements
If you need a Doctor in an Emergency between 6.30pm and 8.00am or at weekends please contact NEWDOC telephone 01244 834999. The out of hours service is commissioned by Wrexham Local Health Board.
Alternatively if you only require advice you may telephone the NHS Direct Wales Helpline.

Emergencies
If you are confronted by a serious problem such as severe chest pain; severe bleeding, collapse or unconsciousness dial 999 and ask for an ambulance.
Telephone Advice and Information
Due to the workload of our Doctors and busy morning surgery Doctors are not able to take phone calls during morning surgery, unless it is deemed urgent or the particular Doctor has requested the telephone call. However we hold a message book for each Doctor and these are read after morning surgery and followed up accordingly. Should it be necessary for you to speak to the Doctor you can do so after 12 noon on a daily basis.
Our Practice Nurses are extremely busy but are happy to take telephone calls from patients on a daily basis from 12.30pm to 1pm. We also hold a message book for our nurses which is read on a daily basis and dealt with accordingly.
The Practice Secretary is available to speak to on a daily basis (except between 1pm and 2pm).
Test Results
The best time to telephone the practice to obtain test results is preferably between 2pm - 4pm.
Please note that the Practice has given permission for SHROPDOC to access patients' blood test results out of hours.
Specimens
You should only bring blood, urine samples etc to the reception in the correct container before 1pm Mon-Fri in order for the Hospital to collect them and deliver them to the Laboratory. Please ensure that the sample is labelled correctly. Alternatively you can deliver the sample direct to the Path Lab yourself.

Repeat Prescriptions
If you are on repeat medication you will be issued with a tear off section with your next repeat prescription. Simply tick the items you require at least 3-4 days before the items are due, forward it to the surgery by hand by post or via the chemist.
Patients who are registered to use the Emis Access service may also order repeat prescriptions online. Please allow at least 48 hours before collecting your prescription or alternatively select from the tear-off section the chemist that you would like the prescription to go to, and we will pass it on to them.
Urgent Prescriptions
These will only be issued as a last measure. It is very difficult for a GP to diagnose over the telephone, or from a message given by the reception staff, it is better for patients to be seen and receive the relevant medication. If you do require an urgent prescription then please telephone between 8.30am - 10.00am in order that, if deemed to be appropriate, they can be ready for collection the same day.
Sick Notes
If you require a sick note you should come in to the surgery to see the Doctor. We are not able to issue these by telephone request, unless there are exceptional circumstances and then you will need to speak to the Doctor.
